Joseph Watkins Charlton, Jr.

On Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 2:23 p.m., God called home, his beloved son Joseph Watkins Charlton, Jr., he was born on August 1, 1953 to Orietha E. Payne and Joseph W. Charlton, Sr., who precedes him in death along with brothers, Kenneth Charlton and Andre Charlton.
“Joe”, “June” or “Hook” to many friends, he enjoyed the simple things in life such as fishing, working on cars, gardening and helping others. He loved his team the Dallas Cowboys. He also was a Nascar Race fan. He retired from Griffin Pipe with over 40 years of service. He was co-founder of the Associated Club that provided meals and services throughout the community.
Joseph is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Carolyn; his children, Selisa A. Walton (Christopher) of Fort Campbell, Ky., Sheila A. Charlton of Lynchburg, Va., Sherwood A. Charlton of Richmond, Va.; two beautiful granddaughters, Briana A. Rivers and Shamya A. Jones; three great-granddaughters, Chasity, Cheyenne and Cyana; siblings, Joyce A. McCoy (Charles) of Jacksonville, Fla., Jessica Major, Terry Charlton of Lynchburg, Va., Donna M. Dillard ( Milton) of Accokeek, Md. and a host of relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, with the Reverend William Goode officiating.
