Josephine W. Mcdill

November 26, 1924 — May 24, 2018

Josephine W.  (Jo Jo) McDill age 93, departed peacefully to her heavenly home with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on May 24, 2018. She was born on November 26, 1924 in Irving, TX; the only daughter of the late David Lee and Buena Vista Herring of Laird Hill, TX.  She is also predeceased by her loving husband of 26 years David M. McDill and her brother, a WWII US Air Force B-17 pilot David John Herring.

She was a sweet, kind and gentle soul, a very loving and devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.  She loved spending time and laughing with her family, and enjoyed baking, walking with friends, singing hymns, solving word puzzles and playing games with other residents where she lived.  She was a graduate of Leverett’s Chapel High School in Laird Hill, TX where she won several Texas State and Regional awards for her exemplary shorthand and typing ability and was also a recurrent spelling bee champion.  In her early years, she worked as a stenographer at the United States Aircraft Defense Plant during WWII and at Texas Oil Well and Supply Company in Dallas.  She later worked as a counselor’s assistant helping people in need of vocational rehabilitation training at the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation center in Canton, OH.  For many years she was an active member of Northwood Christian Church in Beaumont, TX.

Josephine is survived by two sons; Larry Alexander and wife Janet of Clearwater, FL, Bill Alexander and wife Diane of Bedford, VA, and daughter;  Dianne Agee and husband Kenneth also of Bedford,  brother C.G. (Sonny) Herring and wife June of Sugar Land, TX, two granddaughters; Jennifer Drlik and Julie Russ, three great grandsons and one great granddaughter of Canton, OH.

Josephine will be honored and remembered in a “Celebration of Life” Memorial Service at Tharp Funeral Home Chapel, Bedford, VA at 11:00 am on Monday, June 11th 2018. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford is assisting the family.
