Joyce Ann Owens
Joyce Ann Owens, 77, of Lynchburg died October 2, 2012. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ernest Waddell Owens, Jr. of the residence.
Born October 14, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Hilary William Wilson and Ruby Pearl Laughlin Wilson of Bedford County, Va.
Joyce was an obedient follower of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. She was a loving, loyal and caring wife to Ernie, her devoted husband. She was an attentive and compassionate person who listened to and cared for numerous close friends. Joyce had a deep passion for singing and listening to Gospel Music, was a skilled gardener, master chef and songbird lover.
Joyce is survived by a daughter and a son: Sheila Ann Owens Carr (Larry) of Newport News, and Leslie Dale Owens (Laura) of Vienna. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Larry Robert Carr Jr. (Chrissy) of South Riding, Jeremy Aaron Carr of Newport News, Nicholas Ryan Carr (Tina) of Newport News, Justin Thomas Owens of Blacksburg, John Christian Owens and Joseph Patrick Owens both of Vienna. Joyce leaves behind seven great-grandchildren and three brothers and a sister: Frank Edward Wilson (Myra) of Roanoke, Elmer Laughlin Wilson (Peggy) and Charles Lee \"C.L.\" Wilson (Barbara) of Lynchburg and Sandra Wilson Harris (Steve) of Goode.
She was predeceased by her infant sisters, Jane and Marion Wilson, another sister, Jean Wilson Newman and a brother, Hugh \"Bo\" Wilson.
She attended New London Academy, retired from Restaura, a catering business for General Electric and Mr. Donut in Lynchburg. She was a devoted wife of a career US Army Veteran and was a stay at home Mother providing a loving home for her family.
Joyce was a founding member of Rock Pike Baptist Church in Goode and attended Trinity Baptist Church (now Harvest Baptist Church) in Lynchburg.
A memorial service will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Pastor Danny Eubank officiating.
