Joyce Anne Fitzgerald Blondino

Joyce Fitzgerald Blondino passed away, July 25, 2018, at the age of 80. She went to be in the presence of our Lord.

A native of Lynchburg, Joyce Anne Sweeney was born on September 12, 1937, the eldest of five children of Peter Vincent and Nellie Virginia Sweeney. From an early age Joyce exuded sparkle, she loved people and embraced her community. Her spirit shone brightest through her Catholic Faith, the love for her children, grandchildren, volunteerism, and unparalleled enthusiasm for the Hokies.

Later in life referred to as Joy, rightfully so, she brought joy to those around her and loved to bring a smile to others. Joy (aka Nanabird) will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Mickey Fitzgerald (Suellen), Rickey Fitzgerald (Terrell), John Fitzgerald (Cindy) and Katherine Fitzgerald Bushnell (Dean) and eight grandchildren, Brett, Chase, Scott, Jenna, Bess, Nellie, James, and Nicholas. She will also be fondly remembered by her brother, Billy, sisters; Jane and Kitty, nephews; Ken and Pete; and nieces, Barri, Cheri, Rhonda, and Rachel. She was predeceased by her husbands, David Blondino and Ted Layne; and her brother, Vincent and her parents Nellie and Peter Sweeney.

A special thanks from her family to Runk and Pratt and Seven-Hills Hospice for their kind and compassionate care. Also, heartfelt gratitude to the others that have devoted their loving care through family and friendship during her time of need.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg from 4 to 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 710 Clay Street, Lynchburg VA, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Jim Gallagher presiding. A reception will follow at the Church, with interment at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church.
