Joyce Brown Reed, 83, of Gladstone, VA, died Thursday, February 21, 2019. She was the wife of the late Robert Kent Reed Jr.
Born Tuesday, November 19, 1935 in Princeton, WV, Joyce was a daughter of the late Ralph Wilford Brown and the late Lotus Turner Brown.
In addition to her husband, and parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Gerald Brown, and a sister, Kay Malone.
Joyce is survived by her brothers, Wayne Brown, and his wife, Shirley, of Topeka, KS, and Charles L. Brown, and his wife, Serena, of Ruckersville, Va. and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joyce was a surrogate to many of her nieces and nephews as a mother and grandmother. They were her children and attended as many activities. Joyce loved her family most of all. She loved camping with “Bud” in their travel trailer to the mountains, beaches and anywhere they wanted to go. Joyce was a registered nurse at Virginia Baptist Hospital for many years on the maternity floor. It is impossible to know how many babies she delivered into this world. Joyce was a very thoughtful and kind person whom would help anyone. She will be missed.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A Graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
