Joyce Marks went to be with the Lord the afternoon of Wednesday, June 5, 2019. She died peacefully with her family at her bedside. Joyce had an unwavering faith and never questioned God’s will in any of her life’s trials.
Joyce retired from Columbia Gas Company after 20 years of service in 1984. She was an exceptional artist, having won awards in portraiture, and she had a talent for needlepoint, knitting, and creating floral arrangements for which she received many blue ribbons. Joyce was an avid bridge player and achieved two grand slams during her lifetime. She greatly enjoyed continuing to play with her friends at the Williams Home until her last days.
Joyce was the only daughter of Robert W. and Lavena M. Cox and was predeceased by brothers Robert W. Cox, Jr., Heywood Cox, and Ara P. Cox. She was also predeceased by her husband, S. Dudley Marks. Joyce is survived by daughter Sharyn D. Marks, son Dudley H. Marks, daughter-in-law Farah M. Marks, and grandchildren Marilyn M. Taylor (Julian) and Samuel D. Marks.
Joyce’s creativity, style, sense of humor, and ability to accept all of life’s toils and snares with grace and complete trust in God will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation will be held at Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory from 6:30-8 p.m., June 13, 2019. A private service for family will be held at the gravesite at a later date.
