Joyce Hughes Mays, 84, of Lynchburg went to be with her Lord Friday, February 4, 2022. She was the wife of the late Norman Gerald Mays, Sr.
Joyce was born on June 27, 1937, a daughter of the late Lathern Hughes and Nellie Maddox Hughes. Joyce was a devoted homemaker to her family and was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters Wanda Kay Mays, and Faith Mays Adkins (Kenny), a daughter-in-law Joyce Palmer Mays, a sister Sandra Lee (Warren), two sisters-in-law Barbara Lemire (Denis) and Joyce R. Mays, seven grandchildren; Jennifer B. Seigla, Michael Mays (Kristin), Christopher Mays (Liz), Shaun Bryant (Jordan), Amanda Holland (Greg), Ashley Bright (Tom), and Brittany Bell (Rusty), fifteen great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by two sons: Norman Gerald Mays, Jr., and Danny Ray Mays, and a brother Louis Hughes.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Tharp Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Joyce’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2022 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg with Pastor Mack Almond officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Janet Nuckles with Centra Hospice for her devoted care.
