Joyce M. Hawkins

Joyce M. Hawkins Williams, 86, of Goode, died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Bedford, Co., Virginia on March 22, 1924, a daughter of the late Thomas Glovier Hawkins and Bertha Jane Stone Hawkins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Frank Winston Williams. Joyce was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church. She was a Volunteer at the National D-Day Memorial, and a member of the Goode Rescue Squad Auxiliary.

Joyce is survived by her niece, Margaret H. Carnley and her husband, Jim of Goode, their children Tom Carnley and children, Mandi and T.J. of Goode, Robyn Jones and her husband, Clayton and their children Jonathan and Benjamin of Forest and James Carnley and his wife, Donna of Goode;  Joyce\"™s nieces Kathy W. Burnley of Concord, Carol W. Marsch of West Virginia; and her nephew, M. Andrew Williams of Amherst.

Memorial contributions may be made to The National D-Day Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 77, Bedford, VA 24523; Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 3805 Otterville Rd., Bedford, VA 24523; or Goode Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 178, Goode, VA 24556.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Mark Flores officiating. Burial will follow in Hawkins Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford.
