Joyce Moody Conley Myers, 91, formerly of Lynchburg, died Wednesday, January 31, 2024, in Galax, Virginia.
Joyce was born and raised in McDowell County, North Carolina. She graduated from Pleasant Gardens High School where she played basketball. Her love for the game continued for the rest of her life. She was a devoted mother and wife who loved to cook and decorate for all occasions. Joyce was a long-time and active member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church. Though often at the beach, she rarely missed a Hillcat’s game or Boosters meeting, and never missed a family reunion.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Blanche Moody; her siblings, Ruth Moody Andrews, Cecil Moody, and Bill Moody; her loving husband of 33 years and father of her children, William C. “Bill” Conley; and a second husband, John G. Myers who brought 15 years of joy into her life. A step-grandson, Jeremy Roberts, also preceded her death.
She is survived by a daughter, Debra C. Garrett of Charlotte, North Carolina; a son, Steven C. Conley (Larkin) of Galax, Virginia; three grandchildren, Tish Garrett Nadelman (Cary) of Weston, Connecticut, William “Cole” Conley (Haleigh) of Hillsborough, North Carolina, and Samuel “Clif” Conley (Lauren) of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Emerson, Stepp, and Lyall Nadelman of Weston, Connecticut. She is also survived by two stepdaughters, Bonnie Webb (Tommy) of Richmond, Virginia, and Vickie Roberts (Malcolm) of Lynchburg, Virginia; three step grandchildren, Leilani Gilliam (Steve), Zach Roberts (Natasha), and Cameron Lonnemann (John); and several step great-grandchildren.
Over the last few years, Joyce was greatly blessed with exceptional care. The family would like to recognize each of those who attended to her needs with dignity, respect, and compassion. A special thanks to Melissa Lineberry, Kim Shively, Linda Johnson, Courntney Kennedy, and Melissa Graffgaard for showering her with tenderness and love.
