Joyce W. Johnson, 87, formerly of Madison Heights, was called to be with her Lord and Savior October 16, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer and dementia.
Joyce was born in Lynchburg, a daughter of the late James M. Wright Jr. and Maude S. Wright. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Marshall “Cotton” Johnson in 2011; her brother, Raymond A. Wright, and her sister, Shirley Mae Wright.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon J. Hartless and husband Wayne; her son, Jeffrey Lynn Johnson and wife Terri; four grandsons, Troy Hartless, (Michelle), their children Taylor, Jake, and Lauren Hartless; Kevin Hartless (Kim), their children Savannah, Connor and Carson Hartless; Eric Johnson, (Sarah), their children Addison and Emerson Johnson; and Ryan Johnson (Erica).
A memorial service and celebration of Joyce’s life will be conducted by Evangelist Earl Clarkson and Pastor J. D. Surbaugh, Thursday, October 20, 1p.m. at Temple Baptist Church, Madison Heights, Va. Visitation will immediately follow the service. Sharon and Jeff will receive friends at their respective homes at other times.
The family wants to express their appreciation to the administration and staff of Runk and Pratt Forest, where she had lived since January, and to Centra Bedford Hospice for their excellent care of Joyce since April.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Temple Baptist Church or Centra Bedford Hospice.
