Joyce Whitaker Benfield
Joyce Whitaker Benfield, 80, of Lynchburg died Monday December 24, 2012. She was the loving wife of Dale F. Benfield for over 44 years.
Joyce was born August 14, 1932 in Cleveland County, North Carolina a daughter of the late Sherman Dudley Whitaker and the late Lillie Holland Whitaker. Joyce was retired from Human Resources with Ameri Mark and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband she is survived by three daughters: Marilyn Cundiff and husband Jerry of Lynchburg; Judy Lynn Kane and husband Michael of Forest City, NC; and Barbara Dale Sane and husband Doug of Denver, NC, one sisters Gail Price of Shelby, NC, seven grandchildren and one special grandson Michael S. Grant, three great-grandchildren, and her four legged kitty companion \"Penny\".
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a step-mother Gladys Whitaker, two brothers Carl Dudley Whitaker and Robert M. Whitaker, and one sister Patricia Daves.
A Celebration of Joyce\"™s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday December 28, 2012 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg with the Rev. Catherine Montgomery officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
