Joyce Wingfield Little, 84, of Lynchburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at her residence with her loving children by her side. She was married for over 50 years to the late Therman O. Little.
Born November 16, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John Nordon Wingfield, Sr. and the late Marie Londeree of Lynchburg. As well as being a wonderful wife and mother to her three children, she worked at General Electric and Ericcson for over 35 years.
She loved historic homes, antiques and gardening. She was an avid supporter of the Special Olympics of Virginia, never missing a competition while her health permitted. Rarely does one meet someone that handles adversity with the grace and compassion for others that Joyce embodied. Through all of life’s trials, she kept her head up and her heart open.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven siblings, Annis Wingfield Martin, John Nordon Wingfield, Jr., Mildred Wingfield Wood, Majorie Wingfield Relf, Earlene Wingfield Burnette, Robert Wingfield, and Paul Wingfield.
Joyce is survived by her three children, Diane Little Millner and her husband, Lenard of Rustburg, Mark Christopher Little and his spouse, E. Todd Leap of Lynchburg, and her cherished daughter, Christy Lynne Little of Lynchburg. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Ronnie Wingfield of Rustburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2015, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Cumbie Memorial Cemetery in Rustburg. The family will receive friends after the service at the residence.
