JP “Bunky” Grant III “, 62, passed away unexpectedly on October 9, 2021 in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Grant was born in Fairbanks, Alaska on March 7, 1959, to Ida May Butler and JP Grant II. He came from a large, loving family he was very proud of and of whom he told many memorable stories.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers: Tyrone, Jay, and Russell; his sister, Susan; Uncle, Jake; Aunt, Betty; Best friend, Terry; as well as other family members and friends he loved dearly.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 22 years, Linda Grant; their four children: Nichole “Nikki”, James, Sarah, & Elijah “Bobo”; his grandchildren: Josiah, Ryland, & Maya; Brother, John; Sister, Karen; Aunt, Carrie; Cousins: Renee, Jackie, Nate; Nephew, Jerome; Nieces: Tiffany, Nicole; Mother-in-law, Freeda; Brother-in-law, David; as well as many other family members & countless friends.
Grant graduated high school in Sacramento, CA in 1977 and joined the Army immediately after graduation. After serving in the army as an airborne ranger & sergeant for 8 years, he worked multiple positions; including being a prison guard, working for FEMA, working for Boeing, as well as other positions. He met his wife and best friend, Linda, in Oregon where they lived for 8 years before moving their family across the country to Lynchburg, Virginia.
He loved cooking, boxing, playing video games, socializing, and telling jokes. He earned a bachelor’s degree as well as a master’s degree in Psychology. He took pride in setting a good example for his children and showing them, they can do anything they set their mind to. He was always very hard-working and ambitious.
He was a master chef, a comedian, and an extrovert who could befriend anyone.
He was very motivational and inspired many to pursue their dreams and strive for greatness. As a friend and mentor, he would provide advice, encouragement, and whatever support necessary to help people. He had a special ability to easily identify others’ strengths and empower them. He was also the funniest man you’d ever know and brought so much cheer to whoever was in his presence.
Bringing joy to others is what truly made him happy.
Life will never be the same without you, but we are all so grateful and blessed to have shared this journey called life together! You will live on in our hearts always & forever!
