Juan & Joyce Johnson

Joyce Marie Johnson transitioned on Monday May 31, 2021 at the Bedford Health and Rehabilitation Center. Joyce was born on March 1,1960 to the late Norman H. Johnson Sr, and Augusta W. Johnson. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her siblings C. Ray Wilson, Reuben Lee Johnson, and Juan Johnson.

Joyce lived in the Dearington area of Lynchburg where she had numerous relatives and many friends. Joyce relocated to Washington DC at an early age where she lived her life there until her illness brought her back to Lynchburg, VA.

Joyce graduated from Ballou High School and went on to study at the University of the District of Columbia.  Over the years she worked at various government entities in Washington, with her most recent employment as an armed security guard for Frontier Systems of Washington DC. Joyce was free spirited, lived life to the fullest, avid reader, and always had a loving fur baby.

Joyce is survived by three brothers Norman Johnson Jr., Donald Johnson, and Ronald Johnson (Rhonda) all of Lynchburg VA, three sisters; Debra Spinner of Altamonte Springs Fl, Rita McCoy (James) of Las Vegas, NV and Denise Johnson of Washington DC, and a host of nieces nephews, cousins, and friends.

Juan Thomas Johnson transitioned on March 13, 2021 at his residence in Lynchburg Virginia. He was born on February 4, 1968 to the late Augusta W. Johnson. In addition to his mother Juan was also preceded in death by his son Juan Johnson Jr., siblings; C. Ray Wilson, Reuben Lee Johnson, and Joyce Marie Johnson.

Juan graduated from Jefferson Forest High School and was a proud member of the of the Road to Recovery where he celebrated eight years of sobriety. He enjoyed working at Med Express where he provided janitorial services.

Juan is survived by three brothers Norman Johnson Jr., Donald Johnson, Ronald Johnson (Rhonda) all of Lynchburg, VA, three sisters; Debra Spinner, of Altamonte Springs Fl., Rita McCoy (James) of Las Vegas, NV and Denise Johnson of Washington DC, fiancé; Traci Price, two step children; Lesha Brown, and Lamar Brown Williams of Lynchburg, VA, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of life for Joyce and Juan Johnson will be held Wednesday 12:00 pm June 23, 2021 at the Tharp Funeral Home Chapel Lynchburg, Virginia. Pastor Herb Albert will be the officiant and Rev. Dr. Carl B. Hutcherson Jr. eulogist. In lieu of flowers please offer memorial contributions to the funeral expense of Joyce and Juan to Tharp Funeral Home.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg is assisting the family.
