Judith Elizabeth Reiff Stauffer (Age 78) passed peacefully on October 23, 2018 in Lynchburg, Va. surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Allentown, PA on November 13, 1939 to Theodore Roosevelt and Elizabeth Doris Bell Reiff. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Judy was a lifelong learner, prolific researcher, creative artist, volunteer, and doer. She devoured books but was never afraid to get her hands dirty. She created beautiful artwork, deeply researched genealogy, exquisite gardens, and notoriously delicious cuisine. She relished nature and traveled widely. She graduated from Muhlenberg College becoming a biology/chemistry teacher, Research Scientist in Viral Immunology at NIH, Research Assistant in the Department of Neurology at University of Minnesota, a Master Gardener in the state of Maryland, and served 5 years as President of San Mar Orphanage helping its transformation from an Orphanage to a Home for children with deeply troubled needs. She was independent, humble and devoted. She loved sharing her broad knowledge and interests with friends and family.
Judy was predeceased by her sister and brother in-law Nancy and Robert Fitzgerald and brother-in-law Dr. William Stauffer. Judy is survived by her loving husband of 55 years John Timothy Stauffer; sister-in-law Ruth Stauffer; daughter Suzanne Ojeda (husband Joe, daughter Brandi-Jo and sons Andre & Joe Angel); son Thomas Edward Stauffer (wife Cindy and daughter Charlotte); son Michael James Stauffer (wife Diana and daughters Isobel and Lillian); niece Katherine DeMasters Fitzgerald (husband Paul, daughter Rebecca and son Christopher), nephew Dr. William Moyer Stauffer (wife Carol, sons Max and Jake); niece Jennifer Ellen Stauffer; nephew Christopher Paul Stauffer, PhD (wife Parul, daughter Sophie and son Samir).
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Community Room of the Summit, 1400 Enterprise Drive, Lynchburg, Va., 24502.
