Julia “Judy” Taylor Howerton of Lynchburg passed away on December 5, 2018. She was born in Lynchburg on March 19, 1940, to the late Robert Glenn Taylor, Jr. and Margaret Winfree Taylor.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Vernon C. Howerton, her sister Douglass T. Ford, and her brother Robin G. Taylor. Judy was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and Converse College. Other than her time away at college, she lived her entire 78 years in Lynchburg.
She was a devoted mother to her four children: Vernon C. Howerton, Jr. (Genie), Elsie C. Howerton, Mollie W. Howerton (Charlie Baffi), and Sarah H. Kroncke (Reed); and her eight grandchildren: Julia and John Howerton; Maggie, Caroline, and Olivia Baffi; and Paige, Kate, and Dylan Kroncke. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Judy is survived by her brother Lee W. Taylor.
Judy served her community as a member of the Lynchburg Junior League, Lynchburg Garden Club, Lynchburg Tennis Patrons Association, and on various committees for Lynchburg Public Schools. She also was a devoted member of the Bedford County Hunt where she pursued her love of horses and foxhunting.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.
