Julian Calvin Watson of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on January 29, 2022, at the age of 77. He leaves behind the love of his life, Gloria Nell Watson, to whom he was married for 55 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Fred (Cindy), Bobby, and Joey (Lisa), his grandchildren, Abby and Ben, and his brothers, Jimmy (Joan) and Danny (Deb).
The son of the late James Styles Watson and Myrtle Staples Watson, Julian was born on November 28, 1944, in Newport News, Virginia. He was a graduate of E. C. Glass High School and Lynchburg College.
Julian was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He traveled the world aboard, and was a plank owner of, the Kitty Hawk-class aircraft carrier, USS America.
A gifted machinist, Julian retired from Areva. He was also an avid pool player, a passion he shared for many years with his good friend, Bill Davis.
In his retirement, Julian volunteered with the Humane Society of Campbell County, and for several years he was the PetSmart Santa Claus.
A private service celebrating Julian’s life will be held at Tharp Funeral Home.
