Julie Amanda de Coligny passed in her sleep peacefully in Lynchburg, Virginia on March 30, 2024. She was born on July 16, 1946, in Mount Kisco, New York and grew up in Richmond, Virginia, attending St. Catherine’s School. She spent most of her adult life in Amherst, Virginia.
Amanda graduated from Sweet Briar College and received a graduate degree from the University of Bridgeport.
In the 1970’s, she opened S’Amanda’s Natural Mercantile in Amherst. In recent years Amanda sold her baked goods to devoted customers of “Honest to Goodness Foods” at the Lexington Farmers Market.
Amanda was a colorful character and anyone who knew her had “Amanda stories.” She was hard working, strong-willed, smart, and entrepreneurial. Amanda lived life on her own terms. She loved her dogs and cats and always had trouble with her truck. Amanda was predeceased by her parents, Calvert Guerric and Julia Sadler de Coligny, her brother Calvert Guerric de Coligny Jr. (Eva de Coligny), her sister Anne de Coligny Davis, and her niece Anne Arleigh Davis Cobbs.
She is survived by her brother William de Coligny (Margie de Coligny), as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A service of remembrance is scheduled for April 13, 2024, at Ascension Episcopal Church in the Town of Amherst at 4:00PM.
