June Darrell Kidd Brooks, 79, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011. She was the wife of the late Robert Wesley Brooks.
Mrs. Brooks was born Sunday, January 25, 1931, in Lynchburg, a daughter of the late James Gentry Kidd and Evelyn Valley Kidd. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church. She had a beautiful singing voice and was an avid doll collector with Jacqueline Kennedy and other celebrities being her favorites. She loved nature, caring for her plants and watching birds and groundhogs through her binoculars. Later in life she became a big fan of watching soap operas and loved keeping up with what was going on in the character\"™s lives each day.
She is survived by her children, Richard Darrell Brooks and wife, Kathleen, Forest, Robert Wayne Brooks and wife, Pat, Forest, and Shirley Ann Brooks, Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Rick Brooks and wife, Stephanie, Altavista, Ginnie Ogden and husband, John, Forest, and Stephen Brooks and wife, Amber, Charlottesville; her brother, Ronald Gentry "Bud" Kidd and wife, Dolly, Concord, a sister, Ruth Ann Taylor, Lynchburg, her great grandchildren, Brendan Ogden, Emma Ogden, Page Ogden, Stuart Ogden, Parker Brooks, Ava Brooks, Jacob Brooks and Sydney Rice; and special friends, Fred & Homer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Camm Turner, a grandson, David Brooks, and a sister, Shirley Stump.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of June's life will follow at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Julie Flores officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
