Karen Elizabeth (Russell) English, 63, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 following a lengthy illness at her home in Hardy, VA.
Karen was the daughter of the late William Withers \"Luke\" and Alma Keith (Harvey) Russell. She was born August 11, 1950 in Campbell County, VA and was the devoted wife of Thomas F. English, Jr. of Bedford, VA
Karen was a 1968 graduate of Brookville High School in Campbell County, VA. She also attended Radford College in Radford, VA and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.
In 1969, Karen met and married Tom English with whom she shared forty-one and one-half years before his death in 2011. They were members of Salisbury Presbyterian Church in Midlothian, VA.
Karen was proud to have been employed by Blue Bell, Inc. of Greensboro, NC and for Reynolds Metals Company and the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Va.
She is survived by her beloved sister, Mary Jane Russell of Hardy, VA; a much-loved aunt, Nancy (Harvey) Floyd of Lynchburg, VA; and, two cousins, Thomas Reeves Floyd of Salem, VA and Cynthia (Floyd) Page of Harrisonburg, VA.
Both Karen and Tom were avid Railfans, and members of the Norfolk & Western and the Louisville & Nashville Historical Societies, and the Old Dominion Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society.

A Memorial service will be held at Tharp Funeral Home Chapel, Bedford at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 15, 2012 with the Rev. Dr. David L. Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, (540)-586-3443.
