Karl Richard Wuttke, 91, of Lynchburg, died Monday, November 12, 2018. He was the husband of Bonny Lou Wuttke for 67 years. He was devoted to his family and friends; he will be deeply missed.
Karl was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on January 21, 1927, a son of the late, Arthur Willy Wuttke and the late Charlotte Bashelier Wuttke. He served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II, and then went on to graduate from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and retired from First Colony Life Insurance Company.
Karl was a former member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church choir and the Jefferson Choral Society. During his employment at First Colony Life Insurance he achieved his Charter Life Underwriter (CLU). At one time Karl was the top blood donor for The American Red Cross. A former President of the Lynchburg Stamp Club. A former member of the Tuesday Morning Book Group and participated in activities including fishing, running and tennis.
Karl was a lover of life and lived it to the fullest. Some of his happiest times included traveling with his wife, Bonny and his family.
Karl was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Wuttke Olson; a brother, Paul Elmer Wuttke; and a sister, Ruth Hulda Wuttke Jordon.
In addition to his wife, Bonny, he is survived by his daughter, Karen Wuttke; a son, Tim Wuttke and his wife, Stephanie Martin Wuttke; son-in-law, Keith Olson; grandchildren, Kasey Martin Wuttke, Jill Elizabeth Olson Peters and husband Paul, Troy Allen Olson and wife Laura; and a brother, Rudolph Wuttke.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff at Centra Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Karl’s illness and to the staff at Generation Solutions.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
A memorial service for Karl will be held at 2 p. m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Dennis S. Roberts officiating.
