Katherine Duane Wingfield Perrow

Katherine Duane Wingfield Perrow died on Thursday, January 07, 2010.   She was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on April 19, 1908, the daughter of Lewis Edmund Wingfield and Mary Duane Wingfield.  She was predeceased by her husband, Mosby Garland Perrow, Jr., and older brother, Edmund Duane Wingfield.



Katherine graduated from Lynchburg High School and Randolph-Macon Woman's College with a degree in English.   She taught in the Lynchburg and Campbell County Public Schools.  She was active in many civic and cultural organizations including the Junior League of Lynchburg, National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in Virginia, The Jamestown Society, The Lynchburg Woman's Club, and the Dogwood Garden Club. In 1943 she was a founding member and later President of the Child Care Center.  In 1950, Katherine helped launch the Williams Home, a retirement residence for women, where she resided  for the past eight years.   She also served as a member of the Lynchburg School Board.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Duane Perrow Nelligan and husband, Wistar Palmer Nelligan of Lynchburg;  Mosby Garland Perrow, III and wife Holly Winters Perrow, also of Lynchburg; and Edmund Wingfield Perrow and wife, Martha Spencer Perrow, of Atlanta, Georgia.  She was fortunate to have eight grandchildren; Wistar Palmer Nelligan, Jr., Katherine Nelligan Steuart, Hellen Perrow Carrington, Alex Perrow Wood, Mosby Garland Perrow, IV, Edmund Wingfield Perrow, Jr., Elizabeth Perrow Crutchfield, and Langhorne Stuart Perrow; and twenty great-grandchildren.

Her longevity might be attributed to her positive outlook on life and she will be remembered for her beauty, grace, thoughtfulness, sense of humor, and wisdom.

The family will receive friends at the home of Wistar and Duane Nelligan, 1600 Clayton Avenue, from 3:00 to 5:00 on Sunday, January 10, 2010.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 11, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. John Scholer and Rev. Richard T. Harbeson.
