Katherine “Kay” Ruth Kobert passed away in the presence of her family on Friday, August 19, 2016, at 56 years old, after a valiant fight against cancer.

Kay was born in West Point, New York on March 22, 1960.  Her father served in the Air Force, so she and her family lived in many places.  Kay was a graduate of Brookville High School, and Lynchburg College where she graduated summa cum laude.  Kay worked for Bedford County Public Schools beginning as a 2nd Grade teacher, then worked as a Library Media Specialist for many years.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, teaching yoga classes, and dancing with her favorite partner, Ron.

Kay is preceded in death by her father, Richard “Dick” Albert Kobert, Jr.  She is survived by her mother, Mary Lou Kobert; fiancé, Ron Dixon; daughter, Jessica Wheeler and her husband, Justin, and their sons, Conner and Gray; son, Jonathan Allen and his wife, Tiffany, and their sons, Xander and Kai; daughter, Jennifer Allen; sister, Kim Hannell and her husband, Frank, and their daughters, Abby and Erika; also two brothers, and many loved aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kay’s family will receive friends at a visitation service which will be held at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg, Va. on Thursday, August 25, 2016, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.  The memorial service will also be held at Tharp Funeral Home on Friday, August 26, 2016, at 2 p.m.  Friends and family will gather after the service at The Stonegate Villas Clubhouse on Salisbury Circle.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
