Katherine Spruce Hobbs died June 24, 2018. She was born in Lynchburg in 1919. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank T. Spruce and Mary R. Spruce; her first husband, William Dabney, a fighter pilot who was missing in action in WWII, and their son, Bill Dabney; her beloved husband of 64 years, S. Bolling Hobbs; her brother, Frank T. Spruce, Jr.; and her sister, Margaret S. Christian.
She is survived by her son Stewart B. Hobbs, Jr. and his wife, Brenda; two daughters, Mary H. Bunch and husband Ned, and Kit Burnett and her husband, David. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Carson H. Sullivan, Sarah H. Hoffman, Dabney Burnett (Tally), Stewart B. Ford, Gentry B. Laskowski, and George Bunch; seven great grandchildren, Lyric, Kate, Will, Tucker, Ali, Haven and Barrington.
Kitty attended Lynchburg Public Schools and graduated from Randolph Macon Woman’s College in 1940. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
A graveside service will be held Friday, June 29, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery. A reception will be held at Westminster Canterbury following the service at 3:00–5:00 p.m. in the Activity Room.
