Katherine Virginia Robertson Turner

Katherine Virginia Robertson Turner, 92, of Midlothian and formerly of Bedford, died Monday, December 24, 2012 in Retreat Hospital, Richmond. She was born February 24, 1920 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Anna Belle Wright Robertson and John William Robertson, Sr.

Katherine taught Mathematics and Physics in Bedford County Schools for many years. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Madison University (now JMU) in 1940 and her Masters Education from Lynchburg College in 1970. Among Katherine\"™s many hobbies, she was an active and enthusiastic Democrat. She served on the Virginia Council on the Status of Women by appointment of Governors Robb and Baliles. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Bedford Area Heart Association as well as past president of the Friday Book Club, Blue Ridge Garden Club, and American Association of University Women. Katherine was an avid bridge player and world traveler of many destinations. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Olivet Southern Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Corbin Turner; a brother, Jack Robertson; and a brother-in-law, Ed Wood. She is survived by two daughters, Judy T. Fisher and her husband, Bruce D. Fisher of Fairfax and Ann T. Burks and her husband, Philip P. Burks, Jr. of Richmond; five grandchildren, David H. Burks and his wife, Janet Carol of Mechanicsville, Michael D. Scott of Walnut Creek, CA, Kay A. Scott of Fairfax, Brooke F. Burtt and her husband, Peter of Ruther Glen, and Todd C. Fisher of Fairfax; three great-grandchildren, Daniel D. Aragon, Cameron D. Burtt, and Sarah E. Burtt; a sister, Helene Robertson Wood of Bristow, VA; a sister-in-law, Virginia Robertson of Bedford; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, especially her friends at the Brandermill Woods Retirement Community.

A celebration of Katherine\"™s life will be conducted at 11 AM, Monday, December 31, 2012 in Tharp Funeral Home Chapel with her nephew, Rev. Rucker P. Burnette officiating.
