Kathleen Jones Swann

Kathleen Jones Swann, 93, of Lynchburg, passed away at her home Monday, August 25, 2014.
Born August 22, 1921, on Springfield Farm in Earls, VA, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Ethel Williamson Jones. A graduate of Longwood Teachers College, Kathleen enjoyed a long career with the Lynchburg Public Schools. Many in the Lynchburg area still fondly remember Mrs. Swann as their kindergarten teacher at Paul Monroe Elementary.
She was a member of Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
Kathleen is also preceded in death by her first husband, John Lloyd Swann, two brothers; F. B. Jones, Jr. and wife, Jo, and George W. Jones and wife, Doris.
She is survived by her children: Sandra Kathleen Swann, John L. Swann, .Jr., and wife, Gloria, Franklin A. Swann, and wife, Edie all of Lynchburg; 5 grandchildren Ann Swann Thompkins, W. Hunter Swann, R. Lloyd Swann and wife, Chrissie, Kaitlin D. Swann, and F. Mitchell Swann; 3 Great Grandchildren, Emily Thompkins, John Kelly Thompkins, and Aubin H. Swann; and 5 Grand Dogs who received a special treat or two during each visit with Kathleen.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing bridge, collecting antiques and gardening. Kathleen also enjoyed her lifelong membership in the DAR. In her later life Kathleen took enormous joy in her family and her 5 Grand Dogs.
A private family service and interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial gift to the Lynchburg Humane Society, 3305 Naval Reserve Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
