Kay was born in Guatemala City on July 29, 1940, the daughter of the late Reverend Thomas Burt Evans and the late Vesta Knudson Evans, who were serving as missionaries at the time. She was a member of Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg for about forty years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, daughter Joan Adcock and her husband, David of Lynchburg, and son Karl Uotinen and his wife, Lisa of Daleville; grandchildren, Kathryn “Katie” Adcock, Elizabeth Bayse, Alexandra Adcock, Danny Adcock, Ana Uotinen, Amie Uotinen, and Lauren Uotinen; and her great-grandchildren, Cailey Bayse, James Bayse, Caitlyn Bayse, and Chloe Gunnoe.

Kay earned a bachelor’s degree in teaching from the University of Michigan and taught in Livonia, Michigan before she was married. She worked as the front office manager for the Miller Home for Girls in Lynchburg for fifteen years. She taught Sunday school at Rivermont Presbyterian Church, and was an enthusiastic volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Rivermont Area Emergency Food Pantry. Together with her husband, Vic, she founded and shared the leadership of the Lynchburg International Friendship Exchange (LIFE Club), which fosters lasting friendships and inter-cultural exchange between international college students and local residents. An avid reader and lifelong learner, she touched all who knew her with her gentle, self-sacrificing and empathetic spirit.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2015, at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg.
