Kathryn Hanlin, aged 91, of Lynchburg, Va., died at her home at Runk and Pratt at Liberty Ridge, December 17, 2018. She was born September 3, 1927 in Lynchburg, a daughter of the late Rev. Floyd Jackson Wingfield and Annie Mae Lawrence Wingfield.
She is survived by her beloved husband, William Warner Hanlin of Lynchburg, who made her last 20 years wonderful; daughters Dr. Kathie Carwile-Johnson and her husband Wendell K. Johnson of Lynchburg and Cynthia Ann Carwile Causer and husband David Dale Causer of Franklin, TN; and son-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Daniel D. Robinson of Highlands, NC. She was blessed with seven grandchildren: Heather Johnson Quintero and husband Joshua J. Quintero of Lynchburg, Danielle Causer Brabston and husband Dr. Eugene Willis Brabston, III, David Dale Causer, Jr. of Franklin, TN, Charis Robinson Miller and husband Ramsey Stephen Miller of Woodstock, Va., Zachariah McDaniel Robinson and wife Glori Cosio Robinson of New Orleans, LA, and Seth Carwile Robinson of Black Mountain, NC. Kathryn delighted in her great-grandchildren, Jude Lawrence Quintero, Gabriel London Quintero, Elias Ransom Quintero, Eugene Willis Brabston, IV, Samuel Judah Brabston, Elizabeth Meadow Brabston, and Charlotte Pearl Cynthia Brabston and David Rainn Causer, III.
She is also survived by four brothers: the Rev. Arthur W. Wingfield of Roanoke, Va., the Rev. Lawrence A. Wingfield of Charlottesville, Va., the Rev. Wayne O. Wingfield of Lynchburg, Va. and the Rev. Dr. Stephen R. Wingfield of Mount Crawford, Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Walter DeWitt Carwile, Jr., her daughter Gwynne Annette Carwile Robinson and her granddaughter Rachael Kathryn Johnson Horton and grandson-in-law Aaron Kenneth Horton. Also preceding her in death are her brother the Rev. Dr. Floyd Jackson Wingfield, Jr. and a sister Helen Wingfield Tanner of Rustburg, Va.
She was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and taught Week-day Religious Education classes from 1968-1973 in the Bedford County Public School System at Bedford, Montvale and Thaxton Elementary Schools.
Kathryn always loved having fun with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved needlework and crafts and she always would rather be doing something outside. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and lived for Him.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Services will be held Friday, December 21, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Runk and Pratt Liberty Ridge. Graveside services will be private at Greenwood Cemetery, Bedford.
