Kathryn Starkey Hutcherson

Kathryn Starkey Hutcherson, of Lynchburg died on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Lynchburg General Hospital.

 

Kathryn was born in Renan, Virginia on June 11, 1924; she was the daughter of the late Wilson Starkey and Mary Guthrie Starkey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Willard Hutcherson, a daughter-in-law, Linda West Hutcherson and two brothers,

W. T. Starkey and Edward Starkey.

 

She is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Willard Roy Hutcherson; son David Roy Hutcherson and wife Amy and children, Catherine, Jennifer and her husband John, Collin and Yale, of Renan; Grandson Dave Hutcherson and wife Shirley; Three great-grandchildren, Haley, Hannah and Tyler Hutcherson, all of Renan. She is also survived by her Sister, Mary Lena Nuckles and husband Billy of Danville; sisters-in-law Virginia B. Starkey of Hurt, Madeline Hutcherson Thompson, of Lynchburg, Ruby Dews Hutcherson, of Hurt and many nieces and nephews.

 

Kathryn graduated from Phillips Business College and started her career as a secretary and typing teacher at Renan High School. During her job, she continued her business education with many courses as she worked to improve her secretarial skills. After moving to Lynchburg, she worked for Lynchburg City Schools Administration in many capacities and ended her career before retirement working for Dr. John Daniels and Superintendent, Dr. Joe Spagnola.

 

She was a former member of Straightstone Baptist Church in Renan and after moving to Lynchburg she became a member of Beulah Baptist Church. She served as past president of the American Business Woman\"™s Association and also past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elk\"™s Club.

 

In addition to her passion for her career she had many interests which included fishing, art, painting, decorating and fashion. She made a statement with her style. Her nails, jewelry, outfit and shoes were always tastefully matched and her hair was beautifully done. She was a stylish lady in every way.

 

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Dr., Lynchburg, VA and other times at her residence, 64 Crocetti Lane. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brian Seay officiating.     Interment will be immediately following at Fort Hill Memorial Park, Lynchburg, VA.
