Kay Mahone Derrick

Kay Mahone Derrick, of Forest, passed away on November 9, 2024. She was born on February 13, 1955, a daughter of the late Walter Mahone and Virginia Vest.

Known for her infectious smile and warm, kind-hearted spirit, Kay was someone who could light up any room. Her love for music, especially country songs, resonated deeply with all who knew her. She had a way of making those around her feel special and loved, often spoiling her family and friends with her generosity and affection.

Kay's independent nature was unmatched - her strength and determination were qualities that all admired, and her tenacity left an indelible mark on those lucky enough to know her.

In addition to her family, Kay had a deep affection for animals, and her home was always a haven for the creatures she adored. She was also an avid shopper, always on the hunt for a good bargain or the perfect gift for someone she loved.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick and Walter Mahone.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years, David Derrick; four children, Cindy Trent (Marvis), Brian Perrow (Angie), Haley Brooks (Josh), and Dana Rich (Brandon); nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Danny Mahone (Tina); and special friends, Cheryl and Ricky.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 6 – 9 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday. November 13, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg.
