Kendall Yoder

May 14, 1991 — April 1, 2016

Kendall Earl Yoder, born May 14, 1991, entered heaven on April 1, 2016. He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Jonathan David Yoder. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife and best friend Catherine Poss Yoder; loving and loyal parents Robert “Bob” Yoder Jr. and Almaria Zehr Yoder; sister Cherie Cobb and husband Samuel; sister Chrystal Anders and husband Steve; brother Galen Yoder and wife Allison; sister Belinda Kelly and husband Ian; sister Annette Yoder; 5 nephews and one niece who he adored.

Kendall was a gifted musician and writer, appreciating art in many forms. He thoroughly enjoyed playing with bands Belle Avenue Blues, St. Nathan’s Holiday, and Rugby. Other hobbies included reading, good cigars and coffee, hiking, camping and being outdoors, and spending time at Rivermont Pizza and the White Hart. He spent countless hours pouring himself into the youth at Blue Ridge Community Church through leadership, mentoring and friendship.

In his last years, his relationship with Jesus prompted him to order his life around his truest passion, loving and serving Christ by treating each person he encountered as a priceless treasure worthy of knowing. His boundless energy, quick wit, and charisma drew everyone in and made each person feel they were the most important person in the world when they were around him. It didn’t matter if the person met him once years ago for 5 minutes or knew him all their lives, encounters with Kendall impacted them. He brought out the best in people while embracing their worst. He was brutally honest about his past mistakes, and used it as a bridge to get right up in people’s lives. He lived more life in 24 years than most lives three times that length.

Remember him with us at Blue Ridge Community Church, 2361 New London Road, Forest, VA 24551. Come dressed as Kendall knew you best, whether suit and tie or as if you were meeting him for coffee. Viewing to be held Friday, April 8 from 6-8:30 p.m. The memorial service will be at the same address on Saturday, April 9 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Kendall Yoder’s Memorial Fund on gofundme.com or mailed to Attention: Catherine Yoder, 739 Waterlick Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
