Kenneth Christensen

Lynchburg

Kenneth Christensen went to be with his Heavenly Father on October 3, 2024, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Washington D.C. on February 7, 1928. He met and married the love of his life, Florence Christensen in 1950. He served in the U.S. Air-force as a radar technician on the B25 Mitchell aircraft. After his service to our country, he attended and graduated from Capitol Institute of Technology, in Washington D.C. He worked as an engineer for I.T.W. Illinois Tool Works, Paktron division for 40 plus years, where he acquired several patents for his designs. He is most remembered for his work on the Tinkertoy technology. He made the first Tinkertoy Radio that is now in the Washington Museum (Smithsonian). He was instrumental in the development of Interleaf Technology which is still being widely used today.

 Kenneth was a founding member of Sunset Hills Baptist Church and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He has served as the treasurer, Sunday school teacher on numerous committees, and became a deacon in both churches. He also attended Greenview Church of God. He was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and lived a life of service and love.

 Kenneth also served in the Lynchburg/Central Virginia Emmaus Community as well as Epiphany. He enjoyed sharing his testimony with the boys at Natural Bridge Correctional Center and served on the outreach team at the Lynchburg Detention Center. He had a passion for sharing what Jesus had done for him with the youth of today.

 He is preceded by his beloved father and mother, Dr. Carl O. Christensen and Kristina E. Christensen, as well as his brother, Carl O. Christensen; and his sister Lillian Anthony.

He is survived by his wife, Florence Christensen; a sister, Norma Armstrong; his children, Kenneth and Carol Christensen, Judy and Terry Trent, Jan and Ronnie Guthrie, and Kristina and Geoffrey May. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was greatly loved by many of his nieces and nephews as well as his lifelong itty bitty buddy, Donald R Powell.

 A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 20957 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, VA, 24502, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family ask you donate to Greenview Church of God or Calvary Baptist Church.
