Kenneth Hylton Johnston, Sr.

Kenneth Hylton Johnston, Sr., 86, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, January 23, 2018. He was the husband of Rose Adams Johnston for 63 years.

Born December 5, 1931, in Henry County, Va., he was a son of the late George Washington Johnston, and the late Grace Fowlkes Johnston.

Kenneth served his country in the United States Air Force with the 5th Air Force in Korea during the Korean War, was a member of Memorial Christian Church where he sang in the choir for many years, and had retired from Lynchburg Gas Company with 35 years of service.

In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by three brothers: Richard Lee Johnston, George Maurice Johnston, and James Hughes Johnston; and five sisters: Frances Marlowe, Beulah Wells, Jean Wyatt, and Maxine Ivester and Elizabeth Hall.

In addition to his wife Rose, he is survived by his son, Kenneth H. Johnston, Jr. and his wife Laurie, two grandsons: Tyler Fitzgerald Johnston and Trevor Scott Stone Johnston; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service of Kenneth’s life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home Chapel, Lynchburg with the Reverends Virgil and Sue Knipp officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior  to the service.
