Time to Be Born: To his parents George and Adelia Penn, Sr. a beautiful baby boy was born on June 18, 1950 in Lynchburg, Va.
A Time to Be a Man: As a young boy he was raised in Madison Heights, Va. with eight siblings: George (Butch), Wayne (Skettle), Sammy, Carol Ann, Laverne, Patricia, and Consuelo. There he attended Madison Heights Elementary School, Central High School, and Community College. He was blessed with four children: Kenneth, Tasha, Marcus, and Latoya. He later married Debra Crews of Lynchburg, Va. and was blessed with 20 and 1/2 years of marriage.
A Time to Worship: As a young man Kenneth accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and joined Scott Zion Baptist Church. He was a member at local 8270 Union Steel Workers for over 35 years. Kenneth was a dedicated member and officer of Shop Stewart, local union president and financial secretary until his health failed him. Kenneth was always willing to help people. He was humorous, strong-willed, loved to travel and memories of his life will always be treasured.
A Time to Die: Kenneth departed this mortal life and stepped into eternal rest on October 30, 2021 at 9:27 p.m. at Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg, Va. God needed more beautiful flowers in His garden so he called Kenneth home to rest. Kenneth was preceded in death by his son, Marcus Penn; his mother, Adelia Ferguson Penn; his father, George Dennis Penn, Sr.; his sister, Carol Ann Sorrells; and his brother George Dennis Penn, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his best friend and loyal wife, Debra Crews; three children, Kenneth Maurice Penn, Jr. (Malinda) of Norfolk, Va., Tasha Baskfield (Eric) of Chester, Va., and Latoya Penn of Lynchburg; three sisters, Laverne Haskins (Ron) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Patricia Watts, and Consuelo Tabb of Madison Heights, Va.; three brothers, Wayne Penn (Janice) of Rustburg, Va., Samuel Penn (Shelby) of Madison Heights, Va., and George Napier (Susie) of Lynchburg, Va.; five grandchildren, Briana, Sabina, Naomi, Mason, and Lia; three sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Mayberry, Linda Moore, and Patricia Brown of Lynchburg, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Stanley Crews (Shirley) of White Plains, Md., and Samuel Crews (JoAnn) of Fort Washington, Md.; four loving aunts, Maxine, Dorothy, Hattie, and Bootsie; one uncle, Elmer (Mary); a host of devoted and loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and a very devoted friend Reginald Shuford (Jennifer).
A celebration of life will be held 1:00 pm Thursday November 4, 2021, at Tharp Funeral Home Chapel Lynchburg.
