Kenneth Rudolph Zechini “Zeke” passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019. He was born on April 17, 1924 in Harrison County, Ohio to Lorenzo Leo Zechini, Sr. and Geneva Barbieri Zechini. He attended both Holy Cross and Brookville schools. In 1948 he joined the Army and ultimately was stationed in Tokyo, Japan, where he served as a medic. After his service in the Army he returned to Lynchburg and was employed at Mead Corporation. He retired from Mead after 35 years.
He was the last surviving of his seven siblings. He is predeceased by Lorenzo, Jr., Baby Arthur, Mary, Sarah, Arturo, Carlton, and Esther.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Annie P. Zechini; and his four children, Vicki Z. Barrett (Tim), Marcus Zechini, Christopher Zechini, and Elizabeth Z. Smith (Earl); along with his beloved grandchildren, Allen (Christie), Zeta, Joe (Amber), Izzy, Mariana, Mayzie, Hannah, Liza, and Mason.
Zeke loved raising tomatoes, playing Tunk, dancing the Jitterbug (“one for the boys in the balcony!”), cheering for the Irish of Notre Dame, spaghetti on Sundays, belting out a verse from each of his favorite songs, and visits from his children and grandchildren.
Our family would like to thank Centra Hospice for their compassion for our dad and Heritage Green for the kindness shown to “Mr. Zeke.” Finally, we want to thank our mother, Anne, for the way she selflessly cared for Dad, especially during his last and most challenging years.
A service for family will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019 followed by a visitation for friends from 2 to 3 p.m.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
