Kenneth Ray West, 76, of Forest, VA went to his heavenly home on Monday, October 14, 2024. Kenneth was the beloved son of the late Ray West Jr. and Doris Webber West.
He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and devoted wife of 54 years, Carolyn. Kenneth was a proud father to his son, Brent West, of Alexandria, VA (Narda) and daughter, Tracey Stanton, of Troy, VA (Chris). His four grandsons, Angel Callisaya, Alex West, Tyler Stanton, and Nicholas Stanton were his greatest pride and joy, and he cherished the close bond he shared with each of them.
Kenneth is also survived by a brother Carlton West (Teresa): sister, Sharon Johnson (Mike): brother-in-law, Gary Foster (Jane): and five dear nieces.
Kenneth, a graduate of E.C. Glass High School, began his career working alongside his father at Gibson & West Painting, eventually taking over the business when his father retired. For about 30 years, he co-owned W&J Painting with his brother-in-law, Mike Johnson, building a strong reputation and forming countless friendships along the way.
Kenneth’s love for sports was evident from a young age-his mother recalled that he always had a ball in his hands, be it softball, basketball, or later, tennis. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he played softball for over 20 years and tennis for more than 40 years with USTA and found joy on the court.
Traveling with his family was another of Kenneth’s greatest passions. Trips to Myrtle Beach, Cancun, and Jamaica became cherished traditions, and he built lifelong friendships in these places that have lasted for over three decades. He also enjoyed the excitement of visiting casinos and sharing in the fun with friends and family. His warmth and zest for life will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
The family of Kenneth would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated teams at UVA Hospital, UVA Cancer Center, UVA Encompass Health Rehabilitation and Continuum Home Health for their compassionate care and support during his journey. In honor of Kenneth, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, VA.
