Kermit W. Ford, 82, of Lynchburg, went home to be with Jesus, Thursday, May 01, 2014. He was the husband of Lesa Ann LaBaff Ford for 62 years.
Born Tuesday, November 10, 1931 in Potsdam, NY, Kermit was a son of the late Harry Ford and the late Carmel Gonyea Ford.
In addition to his wife, Kermit is survived by his two sons: Mike Ford and his wife, Sherry, of Chattanooga, TN, Dan Ford and his wife, Mary Jo, of Baldwinsville, NY; his daughters Susie Richards and her husband, Todd, of Lynchburg, Jan Bittmann and her husband, Terence, of Lynchburg, and Lori Palumbo and her husband, Jeff, of Spring Valley, OH., and Christine Smith who predeceased him in 1988. He is also survived by a sister, Connie Hatch, of South Colton, NY, two brothers: Hank Ford and his wife, Diane, of Colton, NY, and Bill Ford and his wife, Lorraine, of Colton, NY, as well as 12 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. He is also predeceased by two brothers, Gormand Ford, husband of Elizabeth, and Larry Ford, husband of Carol.
Kerm became a barber in 1958 and his successful hairstyling business continues to this day. He proudly served our country as a member of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He served as a Sergeant at Arms with the Honor Guard for American Legion Post #16, and for 43 years, was a member of the Rescue Squad in Potsdam, NY. He was also an American Hockey Association official for several years and an avid NHL fan. He was an NASCAR enthusiast and worked as a pit road scorer at many of the tracks.
Kerm never met a stranger, always had a story (or two or three) to tell. He had a huge heart and was always ready to help in any way possible. He and his wife have been residents and part of the Legacy family at Linden Park for several years. His zest for life will be missed by all.
A celebration of Kermit’s life will be held in June with special honors by the American Legion Post #16 Honor Guard.
