Kerry L. Martin, Sr.

January 27, 1971 — January 28, 2018

Kerry Lee Martin, Sr. 47 of Moneta, gained his just reward, and entered into eternal rest surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, January 28, 2018.  This “Superman” fought a long and courageous battle with cancer and has been granted a new building, one not made by man’s hand. Kerry’s transition is a manifestation of the promise that he would be healed. Kerry is the son of the late Willie Lee Martin, Sr. and Bernice Ila Burdette Berger (Henry). In addition to his parents Kerry was preceded in death by two siblings, David Lee Burdette and Joyce Diane “Cookie” Burdette.

Kerry was a press operator for Bizerba out of Maryland and was a master at his trade.   A dedicated San Francisco 49’ers fan, Kerry loved football, and rarely missed a game. Kerry was a joy to many, a true family man, who cherished time with family and friends.  He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, God-father, and above all a devoted father to his only son.  He lived life to the fullest, Kerry worked hard and loved harder.  He was an automobile enthusiast, and owned several sports cars over his life span.  One thing was always certain about Kerry Martin, he was sure to have a clean ride and fresh kicks! He saw speed was an adrenaline rush, and anything fast on four wheels caught his attention. Kerry’s spirt, compassion, devotion, sense humor, and love of life will truly be missed by all who knew him, especially those closest to him.

Kerry is survived by his devoted and loving significant other, Leigh Ann Giles (Vinton, VA), and his son, Kerry Lee “K.J.” Martin, Jr (Chesterfield, VA). In addition: his Step-Father Henry Berger (Pittsylvania, VA); God-Daughter, Leeanna Norman; three siblings, Leroy Burdette (Moneta, VA), Donald “Chico” Burdette (Moneta, VA), and Norma Jean Burdette (Roanoke, VA); nieces and nephews, Brad (Johnette) Burdette, Stephanie Martin, Eric Swain, Keith Burdette, Donna Martin, Joyce (Nsi) Burdette, Victoria (Vicky), Dematris Murphy, and Shawnice Garrett; four aunts, Evelyn (Orbrie) Norman, Pearl (Junior) Burdette, Debbie (Eugene) Plummer, and Betty Jordan; two uncles, Dennis Burdette and Kenny Lee Burdette;  a very special cousin/sister, Lisa Norman, a “bonus” son, Joseph de la Rocha;  and a host of family and friends.

Kerry fought the good fight, a long and exhausting battle with cancer.  In honor of not only his fight, but his eternal healing and restoration on the other side, the family would have you know that contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society (The American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Rd # 106, Roanoke, VA 24018) in honor of this great warrior.
