Kevin G. Shelton, 60, of Forest, died Friday, May 31, 2019. Kevin was a 1977 graduate of Brookville High School and a retiree of Abbott Labs, Altavista, Virginia. He was the son of the late Edwin R. Shelton and the late Shirley B. Terry. He is also predeceased by his sister, Karen S. Larson. Kevin is survived by three loving nieces, Jennifer Barnes, Oak Harbor, Washington; Hannah Larson, Mead, Colorado; and Melanie Hoffman, Enterprise, Alabama; a brother-in-law, Jeff Larson, Lynchburg; three great nieces, Noah and Naomi Larson and Sophie Hoffman; one great nephew, Flynn Hoffman; and uncles, aunts and cousins. Kevin also leaves behind many devoted friends.
Kevin retired from Abbott Labs in 2013 after 32 years of service. During retirement, he spent time golfing, fishing and sharing his time and talents with others. Kevin planned the annual Pinehurst Golf Outing that he and friends enjoyed each fall. He took a recent fishing trip to Alaska with friends, Tim and Valerie, that proved memorable. He also enjoyed reminiscing weekly with friends over breakfast at Timberlake McDonald’s. Kevin was a smart and skillful man who was always there to lend a helping hand in time of need.
In 2018, Kevin was diagnosed with cancer. Being a courageous fighter, he persevered. Kevin appreciated the prayers, calls and support of family and friends.
On May 31, 2019, his earthly journey ended, but his new life in heaven began. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center, Gentle Shepherd Hospice and Valerie at The Privitte Home for their outstanding care.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Living Word Baptist Church, 4130 Waterlick Road, Forest, VA 24551.
