Kevin Charles Mayhew went to be with Jesus on May 7, after an extended illness. He was 64 years old, and was living in Lynchburg, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace Rucker Mayhew and Harriet Jean Mayhew, and his sister, Robin Alice Oldham. He is survived by his brother, Wallace Layton “Chip” Mayhew II, of Roanoke, Va. and his sister Linda Mayhew, of Ashville, N.C.; his four nephews, four great-nephews and two great-nieces.
Throughout his life, Kevin made friends with everyone he met. He exuded kindness, and his sense of humor was contagious. He had a heart for others, and his joyful countenance would cheer up those around him. His life deeply impacted others.
In his younger years, Kevin loved to play any sport with a ball; soccer, tennis, basketball. As an avid sports enthusiast, he especially followed the Miami Dolphins and Notre Dame Irish. If he was challenged to a game of sports trivia, he would most likely win, as he remembered stats from years ago and from many different sports.
Kevin loved his family, friends, church family, and those who helped care for his medical needs. He was quick to show appreciation, and genuinely hoped that others were doing well. Kevin was an extrovert who thrived on having conversations with everyone around him. He was actively involved in his church–Gospel Community Church, where he was passionate about serving in the local outreach center “The Connecting Point,” and on Sunday mornings as a greeter.
Kevin loved Jesus and wanted others to know Him too. After suffering for the past few years with a debilitating lung disease, he is now healed and with his Lord and Savior.
A celebration of life will be held at Gospel Community Church Rivermont on Saturday, May 11, at 4:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by Pastor Andrew Moroz.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg is assisting the family.
