Kirby “Vaden” Nuckols

Kirby V. Nuckols, known to his family and friends as Vaden, passed away at Liberty Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Lynchburg, VA, December 27, 2013, at the age of 75, surrounded by his loving family. He kept the faith as he fought a courageous battle against cancer.









Vaden was born to the late Kirby C. Nuckols and the late Christine Oakes Nuckols, on April 4, 1938 in Pittsylvania County, Chatham, VA. He is a graduate of Chatham High School, class of \"™56, held a Business Management Degree from Lynchburg College, and served in the Virginia National Guard for 8 years. He was employed by Babcock and Wilcox, Lynchburg, VA, retiring in 1992 after 34 years of service. He continued his passion for Quality Control at Ericsson, from which he retired in 2002, after 10 years of service.









Vaden enjoyed a strong Baptist Faith and was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church, Wards Road, Lynchburg, VA.







Over his lifetime, he had a vast number of interests which included the Central Virginia Federal Credit Union, during its inception, where he served on the Board of Directors. He was a member of the American Society of Quality Control where he held various positions during the course of his membership. Also, he enjoyed his membership in and support of Mackey Masonic Lodge #69 of Rustburg, VA, Beekeepers Club of Lynchburg, VA, and The Lynchburg Antique Auto Club of Virginia.









He leaves a loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Syble Yeatts Nuckols, two sons and their wives; Kirk and his wife, Tamara Nuckols, and Jason and his wife, Billie Wray Nuckols, six grandchildren; Jake, Jodie, Bryce, Jonah, Brooke, and Jacie Wray, all of which he was exceptionally proud.









He leaves two older siblings to cherish very special memories of his childhood, a brother; Jessie T. Nuckols of Chatham, VA, a sister; Emma Jean Johnson and her husband, Billy of Grenta, VA, and a brother-in-law; J. Robert Burris of Chatham, VA. He was predeceased by a sister, Velma Dean Nuckols Burris, All of whom were extremely special to him, along with his nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm, Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Tharp Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Albritton officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Tharp Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place at 3:00 pm, Saturday in Chatham at Hillcrest Burial Park. At other times the family will be at the residence.









The family recognizes and expresses their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the entire staff at Liberty Ridge Health and Rehab for their love, concern and care for our husband and Dad.
