Kitty Lee Johnston

Kitty Lee Frith Johnston, 87, of Bedford, died on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home. Born December 5, 1924, in Crewe; she was the daughter of the late Horace Hansford Frith and the late Jessie Dunn Frith.



Kitty was an active member of Otterville United Methodist, and also a retired member of the Rebekah Lodge #103. She was employed at Johnston\"™s Rest Home and then became owner & operator of Liberty Manor for 8 years. She was later employed at the Elks National Home for 8 years as a LPN. Kitty\"™s passion was helping take care of others. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting, sewing, and traveling.



In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Lawrence Drayton Johnston, Sr., a daughter, Kathleen Templeton, and a son, Steven Johnston.



She is survived by her children: Lawrence Drayton Johnston, Jr. (Diane) of Bedford, Walter \"Dick\" Johnston (Patricia) of Alabama, Elwood \"Buddy\" Johnston (Gloria) of Bedford, Michael Johnston (Gwen) also of Bedford, Patrick Johnston (Jaynie) of Newport News; 16 grandchildren, 30great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; and a special son-in-law, Marvin Templeton.



The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Oakwood Manor Nursing Home and Bedford Hospice Care for their wonderful care given to Kitty.



Funeral services will be conducted 11 am, Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Pat Tony and Rev. Mark Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, December 9, 2011, 6 to 8 pm at Tharp Funeral Home.
