Kristine “Kristie” Kitts

Kristine Diane Kitts, 19, of Lynchburg, died in a car accident on her way to work on Sunday, January 5, 2014. She and her identical twin were born on May 5, 1994 in Lynchburg; she was the daughter of Diane Kathleen Doss Kitts and Charles Walter (Butch) Kitts, Sr.

Kristie graduated from E. C. Glass High School in 2012 and was a sophomore nursing student at Lynchburg College. While at Lynchburg College Kristie tutored chemistry, was a sister in Kappa Delta Sorority, was the Academic Excellence Chair (highest GPA in her sorority for her year), was inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. She also found time to be the adored babysitter for several families and to work alongside her twin sister at the Boonsboro Food Lion. During her time at Glass, Kristie was a member of the National Honor Society and the Link Crew (leadership program) and played field hockey and JV soccer. She was a dancer at Seven Hills Dance Studio for thirteen years and a life-long member of First Christian Church. Kristie\"™s approach to life was characterized by hard work, kindness, graciousness, inclusiveness and a forgiving spirit.

Kristie was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, James Branchford Doss; her paternal grandparents, Joe Charles Kitts and Mary Elizabeth Kitts; and her step-grandfather; Waldo Clayton Watkins. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sister; Kathleen Elizabeth Kitts, her brother; Charles Walter Kitts, Jr., her maternal grandmother; Dorothy Peters Watkins, her half-sisters; Karin Kitts German and husband, Roger, and Karla Kitts Gragg and husband, William; her aunts and uncles, James Branchford Doss, Jr. and wife Rhonda, and Kenneth Russell Kitts and wife Patricia; and a host of cousins, friends, and sorority sisters.

A memorial service will be conducted in Lynchburg at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014 at First Christian Church with Pastor Dennis Roberts and Rev. Kim Steinhorst officiating. Visitation will follow.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to The Kristie Kitts Memorial Scholarship Fund for Future Nursing Students c/o E. C. Glass High School, 2111 Memorial Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
