Lakala Scott Campbell, 74, of Forest, died on Sunday, June 21, 2015. She was the estranged wife of the late George Washington Campbell.
She was born in Burlington, North Carolina, on February 23, 1941; a daughter of the late Robert Lee Scott and Elizabeth Riddle Scott.
Lakala was retired from Campbell County Schools after more than 30 years of dedicated food service. She also worked for years at Hickory Farms where she enjoyed making many new friends. Lakala was a passionate cook who was especially talented in baking and decorating cakes—including her daughter’s wedding cake! Her talents also included most anything artistic such as flower arranging, plastic canvas, crocheting, cross stitch, and making cherished family Christmas ornaments. Lakala had a generous spirit and she never expected anything in return for her many kind acts.
In addition to her estranged husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Scott.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Albright and her husband Michael of Forest; a grandson, Trevor Albright of Forest—all of whom will miss their Mimi; and a sister, Vickie Gilbert of Lynchburg.
A celebration of Lakala’s life will be conducted in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at 10 a.m. with Reverend Roger Childress and Doctor Jeremy Lelek officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service in Virginia Memorial Park.
