Lake Junior Swisher

December 12, 1922 — June 16, 2016

Lake Junior Swisher, 93, of Lynchburg, VA went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 16, 2016.  He was the loving husband of the late Oleta Genieve Swisher for 64 years.

Born December 12, 1922 in Fairmont, West Virginia. He was a son of the late Beulah Cox Swisher and Lake Swisher.

Lake is survived by a daughter, Sandra L. Snell, of Lynchburg, VA, a son, Larry W. Swisher and wife, Nancy, of Penn Laird, VA, two granddaughters, Shannon L. Carroll and husband, Tom of Evington, VA, Sarah E. Pond and husband, Derek of Indiana; two grandsons, Bradley J. Snell and wife, Michelle, of Penn Laird, VA,  Nicholas A. Swisher, of Elkton, VA, two great-granddaughters, Jessica L. Carroll of Evington, VA  Ashley G. Snell of Penn Laird, VA,  two great-grandsons, Daniel J. Carroll of Evington, VA, Aiden J. Snell, of Penn Laird, VA, two sisters, Phyllis Shaw, of Monroe, NC, and Florise Slusser and husband, Elton, of Fairmont, WV, and a brother, James Swisher and wife, Barbara, of Delaware, OH.

In addition to his wife, Lake was preceded in death by son-in-law Ronnie J. Snell.

Lake served his country as a member of the US Army during WWII. He lived in Fairmont West Virginia until moving to Lynchburg, Virginia in 2005. His love of family was one of the most important things in his life. He was a truck driver who hauled a little of everything across this country. Having a big bass voice, he sang in a quartet and still enjoyed singing. He was an avid golfer in his younger days. A former member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Fairmont, WV, Lake was attending Heritage Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia. Lake will be remembered for having a “Big Heart” for those in need.

A graveside service will be conducted at a later date in Fairmont WV.

The family would like to thank the staff of Westminster Canterbury for the loving care given to Lake.
