Larry John Riffee went to be with his Lord after more than a ten-year courageous fight with cancer. He went peacefully at home with his wife present at his side on March 1, 2015.

Larry was born November 17, 1941 in Charleston, West Virginia. The only child of the late Walter and Lorena Riffee, and grandson of the late Ezra and Addie Riffee and the late John and Biddie Saunders.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 40 years, Nancy Amick Riffee; his daughter Ashley and her husband Eric Robertson; and granddaughter Hallie Quinn, who was the apple of Larry’s eye. Larry was a loving and committed husband, son, father, grandfather and friend to all.

Larry was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School class of 1959. Larry was a graduate of Morris Harvey College class of 1965 (University of Charleston). Larry taught school in Dade County, Florida and Kanawha County, West Virginia.

Larry was employed by Best Foods, Inc.; Cooks Produce, Beckley West Virginia; Purex Corporation, Cincinnati, Ohio; Sysco Corporation; PYA Monarch; Layman Candy Company and Food Service, Roanoke, Virginia; and Quality Foods, Lynchburg, Virginia.

Larry was a member of Timberlake United Methodist Church, Lynchburg, Virginia. Larry loved his church and supported its ministries with time and funds.

Larry loved Fly-fishing and while living in West Virginia he supported it through Trout Unlimited and its programs. The last 20 years of Larry’s life he believed in and supported Lynchburg’s American Cancer Society-Relay for Life and worked tirelessly for fundraising. He was Captain of the Memory of Greg Relay for life Team for many years.   After retiring, Larry volunteered at the YMCA healthy living center and Pearson Cancer Center. Larry loved his favorite college team…West Virginia University.

A Celebration of Larry’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday March 6, 2015 at Timberlake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lynne Alley-Grant officiating.
