Larry Rogers Arrington, age 80, passed away at Lynchburg General Hospital on Friday, April 16, 2021. Larry was born in Bedford County, VA, to the late Roy Rogers and Louise Arrington. In addition to Larry’s parents, he was preceded in death, by his sister, Dianne A. James.

As a longtime, devoted member of Bethany UMC, Larry served as Superintendent of Sunday School,  Chair of the Administrative Council for 30 years, he sang in the church choir, and if the church was open, he was there. Lynchburg College (University of Lynchburg) and the University of Virginia benefited from Larry’s generosity and support of many community and sports activities over decades. Larry served in the U.S. Army for 2 years with a 13 month tour of duty in South Korea in 1965. He was employed by General Electric Co. before joining ED Hawkins Inc., as Vice President. Larry was owner and President of Ed. Hawkins Inc. when the store closed in 2018.

Larry is survived by the true loves of his life, his wife, Betty H. Arrington and Bella, his devoted canine companion, his brother, Barry P. Arrington and wife Dawn, as well as many adored nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Larry’s quick wit and sense of humor delighted all whom he met.

A funeral service and celebration of Larry’s life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Dr. Riley Smith and Rev. Dr. Tom Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
