Larry Wayne Franklin, Sr.

Larry Wayne Franklin Sr., 61, of Rustburg, VA, died Thursday, November 17, 2011. He was the devoted husband of Brenda Green Franklin for 42 years.

Born Wednesday, March 15, 1950 in Rustburg, Larry was a son of the late John Marshall Franklin, Jr. and Bertha Rosser Franklin.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters: Lori Lynn Hammond and her husband, Micheal, of Rustburg, and Kimberly F. Brooks and her husband, Scott, of Gainesville, FL; two sons: Larry Wayne Franklin, Jr. and his wife, Lori, of Cutler Bay, FL, and Robert Shawn Franklin, Lynchburg; eight grandchildren: John Wray, Ashlynn, Katelyn, Kelly, Thomas, Austin, Shawna, and Shawn; two sisters: Jean Sowder and her husband, Roger, and Ann Neuman, both of Homestead, FL; a brother: William Franklin and his wife, Cherri of Rustburg; an aunt: Mildred Rosser, of Rustburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Larry was a loving husband, father and grandfather; his grandchildren were very special to him. He proudly served our country as a member of the Florida National Guard.  He was retired from Bell South where he was a member of the CWA, and the Telephone Pioneers. Larry loved to fish and enjoyed gardening. He will be remembered as a person who was loyal to both his family and those he associated with.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 P.M. on Sunday, November 20, 2011 in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with the Rev. Samuel Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Rosser Family Cemetery, Rustburg.
