Laurel Ann Secord, a lover of life and laughter and the Washington Redskins, was born on November 19, 1947, to Harold and Mary Frances Secord. She passed away on June 13, 2018, at Bedford County Nursing Home, Bedford, Virginia, with her brother, Harold, beside her.
Laurel spent her childhood moving with her family from Vermont to Gloucester, Prince George, Roanoke, and Alexandria, Virginia. She loved summer vacations with her family, traveling the East Coast from Vermont to Key West and back. She especially loved the beach and jumping in the waves.
Laurel was an enthusiastic participant in the Special Olympics for many years, enjoying soccer, bowling, swimming, and attending summer camps.
She was a friendly, caring, and outgoing person who loved talking to friends, family and anyone she met. Laurel treasured her church friends in many locations and especially appreciated the cards, visits, and support from her friends at Timberlake United Methodist Church in Forest, Virginia, and Trinity United Methodist Church in Alexandria, Virginia.
Laurel is survived by her brother, Harold Secord, and sister-in-law, Carol, of Forest, Virginia; her sister, Grace Repass and brother-in-law, Don, of Jacksonville, Florida; her nieces Jenny Kobin and Karen Mason, her nephews: Brian Repass, Chris Repass, and Stephen Secord, and her loving extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2018, at Timberlake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brad McMullen officiating. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the Timberlake Family Life Center for a time to share with the family.
