Laurence C. Williams, Sr.

On May 26, 2010, Laurence C. Williams, Sr., formerly of Princeton, West Virginia, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Lynchburg General Hospital after a long illness.   His two sons were with him at the time.

Mr. Williams had accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior early in his life and had always set a godly example for his family and where he worked.  He had been a long time member of Johnston Chapel Baptist Church in Princeton, where he enjoyed singing in the choir, and had recently begun attending Heritage Baptist Church in Lynchburg.  The angels rejoiced when Mr. Williams landed and taxied into Heaven\"™s hanger.

Mr. Williams had a lifelong passion for flying. He had owned several airplanes, and was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Mariner/Marlin Association, and the Civil Air Patrol.

Born in Princeton, W. Va.  December 4, 1922 to Walter and Addie Williams, who pre-deceased him, Mr. Williams was also pre-deceased by his brothers, Herbert Williams and Robert Williams, and his sister, Ruth Lefler, and one grandson, Richard Williams. He is survived by his former wife, Betty Joyner, of Repton, AL, his two sons, Laurence Williams, Jr. and Noreen Boisvert, of Blackwood, NJ, and Robert Williams and his wife, Lois, of Forest, Va., two grandsons, David Williams and his wife, Cristy, of Chesapeake Va., and Bryan Williams and his wife, Kathryn, of Lynchburg, Va.  He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Andrew Donovan Williams, Tyler Renee Williams and Elora Noelle Williams.

Mr. Williams enlisted in the Navy August 25, 1942 and  served on submarine-hunter aircraft in the Pacific Theater, including Saipan and Iwo Jima until January 23, 1946. After WW II he moved to New Jersey, and was employed by RCA as an Electrical Engineer at the David Sarnoff Research Laboratory in Princeton, N.J.  He retired from RCA in 1990 and moved back to Princeton, W. Va.  where he joined the Civil Air Patrol, and achieved the rank of Major.

On May 26, 2010 he took off for the last time departing at 23:47.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Heritage Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Va. on Tuesday, June 1st at 11:00 a.m.

The viewing will take place at the Seaver Funeral Service, 1507 North Walker St. in Princeton, W. Va. Saturday, June 5th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., and then proceed to the Oakwood Park Cemetery in Princeton.
